Categories we accept
Cars and sedans are typically auctioned off to the highest bidder. If they're not in working condition, they may be recycled for parts, which helps maximize your donation’s value.
Whether exploring Detroit's vibrant streets or driving through the scenic routes of the UP, sedans and cars are a staple in Michigan. They help keep our communities connected.
Pickup trucks often find new life through auctions or are repaired and sold. If they are non-running, parts can be salvaged to support other vehicles.
With our expansive rural areas and local construction needs, pickup trucks are essential in Michigan for both work and play, especially in farming communities.
SUVs and crossovers are frequently auctioned, and if they are outdated or non-functional, they are dismantled for valuable parts.
In Michigan, where family outings and outdoor adventures are common, SUVs and crossovers provide the perfect combination of space and utility for road trips across our beautiful state.
Motorcycles usually get auctioned off or may be sold for parts if they are no longer operational, tapping into a niche market of enthusiasts.
For those who love the open road, motorcycles are a popular choice in Michigan, especially during the warmer months when scenic rides through our forests are a must.
RVs and campers are often sold at auction and provide a great opportunity for buyers interested in travel and adventure, especially during Michigan's peak tourist seasons.
As a state known for its stunning lakes and natural beauty, RVs are a popular way for Michiganders to explore the outdoors, whether it's to the shores of Lake Michigan or the trails in the Upper Peninsula.
Boats may be auctioned or sold for parts. If beyond repair, they can be recycled, helping to maintain the health of our waterways.
With our many lakes and rivers, boat donations significantly contribute to recreational activities here in Michigan, making waves in our local communities.
Commercial vehicles are often auctioned to businesses or repaired to serve other commercial enterprises, helping maintain local economies.
From food trucks to service vans, commercial vehicles play a vital role in Michigan’s diverse economy, providing transportation for small businesses statewide.
Non-running vehicles are typically assessed for parts and then recycled if they can’t be repaired, ensuring every piece contributes to sustainability.
Whether an old car gathering rust in the yard or a classic truck needing love, non-running vehicles are often found in garages across Michigan, ready to help those in need.
Condition guide
When it comes to vehicle donations, the condition of your vehicle is essential but not always a deal-breaker. Running vehicles are often auctioned to help maximize the benefit for our programs. If your vehicle doesn't run, it can still be considered for donation; we assess its potential for repair or parts salvage. We believe that every vehicle has some value that can contribute to our mission.
For vehicles with salvage titles, we evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis. A rebuilt or reconstructed title may also qualify, but we need to inspect it first. Some vehicles may have liens or missing titles, which may affect qualification, but don't hesitate to contact us for clarification! We are here to help you through the donation process.
Title status
| Title status | Accepted? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| clean title | yes | Vehicles with a clean title are straightforward donations and can quickly help our community. |
| salvage | with restrictions | Salvage vehicles can be accepted, but they require evaluation to assess their potential value. |
| rebuilt/reconstructed | case-by-case | Rebuilt or reconstructed titles are considered for donation, but an inspection is necessary to ensure value. |
| lienholder present | case-by-case | If a lienholder is present, you'll need to clear that before donating. We can guide you through this. |
| missing title | case-by-case | Missing titles complicate the donation process but can sometimes be resolved. Contact us for options. |
Pickup considerations
Our team at Great Lakes Givers understands that not all vehicles are easily accessible, especially if they're immobile. We have a specialized process for picking up vehicles that are located in challenging environments, such as apartments, rural properties, or marinas. Our local experts coordinate with you to schedule a pickup that suits your needs, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience for everyone involved.
